Climbing isn’t just a hobby for us—it’s a lifestyle. It sneaks into our social lives, dominates our free time, and keeps us coming back for more. Hour after hour, week after week, we’re here sending blues, crushing reds and problem-solving yellows.

But as thrilling as those early climbing days are, they often come with a familiar realisation: “I’ve hit a plateau!” Or the classic: “I’ve done everything in the gym I can!” Sound familiar? Don’t worry—you’re not alone. Nearly every new member hits this point, and the great news is that our coaches have the solutions you’ve been looking for.

Here’s the reality: climbing is a skill-based sport, but sooner or later, skill and physical ability start to collide—and that’s when your progression slows down. Cast your mind back to the first time you sent a project—it was probably a slab, all about balance, problem-solving and working through the fear. Not a guns-out, shirt off, horizontal test piece. Skill, technique, and mind control have carried you far, but to push your limits further, you’ll need something more. The answer? Training!

Wait… Training? Don’t Panic.

Before you squirm thinking about training, let’s clarify: training is just a more organised version of what you’re already doing every time you come in to the gym, tackle a fresh set, or project a new purple. The difference? A structured plan accelerates your climbing adaptations and helps you break through those plateaus the fastest way possible.

Now, let’s meet our two case studies:

  • Bob, the DIY enthusiast, dives into YouTube, binge-watches Magnus Midtbo’s back catalogue, and tries random training routines from vlogs. Bob gives it a good crack on his own for a few weeks, feels strong, maybe sends that purple project so he carries on. But inevitably, he feels that plateau creeping towards him again no matter how hard he pushes.
  • Jane, the over-thinker, scrolls through training influencers, gets overwhelmed and becomes confused about where to start and what to do, and ultimately sticks to her usual routine of sending what’s within reach on new set days. (I’m not even going to touch on Richard, who watches too much Wide Boyz and thinks crack is back- no Richard, it’s not!).

Poor Bob and Jane! Luckily, we are here to help. We can help and have been helping Bob’s and Jane’s for many years.

Alpine: Built by Climbers, for Climbers.

Supporting the growth of our sport and the incredible community behind it has always been our passion. From the very beginning, our mission has been clear: to grow what climbers need.

It all started with Alpine Robina, the Gold Coast’s first dedicated climbing training gym. The demand for training classes was so high that we quickly outgrew both the space and equipment, pushing us to expand our vision and support climbers on an even larger scale.

Enter Alpine Currumbin—one of the most comprehensive Performance Climbing Centres in the country. Built with climbers in mind, it’s equipped with top-tier facilities, diverse classes, and all the support you need to progress.

Today, we’re proud to host world-class training squads while supporting every climber, from elite athletes chasing competition success to weekend warriors tackling their next project. For our coaches, it’s not just about those podium-level sends; our enjoyment comes from helping every climber, at every level, reach their goals.

The Bob and Jane Effect.

Take Bob: he’s hit a plateau. That’s where our qualified, experienced coaches step in. They tailor his training program to suit his specific needs, ensuring consistent and sustainable progress. By fine-tuning his program to target the right energy systems, Bob keeps moving forward without losing momentum.

Back to Jane. She’s brimming with enthusiasm but needed guidance to channel it. Thanks to our structured training classes, she now knows she’s getting top coaching and workout adaptations designed to boost her performance and help her crush her goals.
