Bouldering

What is Bouldering?

Bouldering is climbing with the freedom of no ropes. It is physical problem solving your way up our walls using only one colour of holds.

The Essentials

No Ropes!

Bouldering is done without ropes. Our walls are a max. height of 4.5m and are built over specialised padded matting. We run everyone through a safety induction and show you how to stay within your comfort level and abilities, and how to push them as well. We also provide well placed down climbing holds to help you get down.

With no ropes you don’t need to wait for a belay partner. Even if you are solo you can come and join us at any time.

Be The Problem

Physical Problem Solving

Bouldering is about problem solving, that’s why boulders are also known as problems. Normally this requires a fair amount of failing before unlocking the finish hold! Some of the most rewarding and satisfying climbs will be the ones you have tried multiple times to work out.

Bouldering has a very fast learning curve and the climbs you feel are impossible to start with will be your warm up within a short time.

There is always more than one way to climb a boulder. Use your strengths; whether you are tall, short, flexible or bouncy, there will be a way up our climbs. Working with friends or other members is a great way of improving and figuring out each climb.

How it works

Our Grades

Ftime Grades

Our climbs (boulders) are designed so you can problem solve your way up our walls. Technique and balance is the challenge much more than raw strength. Each boulder is given a difficulty grade from a1 to a8 allowing you to challenge yourself at your own pace. There are climbs for every level with a different focus on strength, balance and co-ordination in each boulder.

Safety Induction

On Arrival

Come in and meet our team. They will take you through everything you need to know including our safety induction. If you are under 18 then a parent or guardian will need to sign you in. Special climbing shoes are needed for our walls and can be hired if you don’t have your own. Our team will take you through our grading system and where and how to start. They are always here for tips and any help you might need to get you to the top.

Do I need to come in with a friend?

No need, bouldering can be done solo and in your own time.

Do I need prior experience?

No, we are the perfect place to start. Our team will help you get started with everything you need to know and how to start so you can progress in your own time. All of our easier climbs will teach you what you need to know to progress to the harder graded climbs.

What do I wear?

Any comfortable clothing that you can move in. Socks are needed if you are hiring climbing shoes.

Do I need to book?

No bookings are needed for casual entry, just come on in & our friendly team will run you through everything you need to know.

Are you liquid chalk only?

Yes, liquid chalk is awesome and will help you stick to the walls better.  It is possible to climb without chalk and totally optional.

Do you have AIRCON?

Absolutely. Climbing is very physical and we live in QLD! Plus you will stick better to our climbing holds when you have cool, dry sending conditions. We have perfect temp conditions all year round in all locations so you can focus on climbing and not slipping off holds.

Can I bring my dog?

Please do, as long as they are well behaved, toilet trained and are comfortable in the space. There may be other dogs around so please make sure they are good with others and are on-leash at all times.

Do I need to hire shoes?

You will need specialised climbing shoes. If you don’t have your own or can borrow some then we have you covered with shoe hire available.

Do you have an age restriction?

Alpine Robina and Currumbin are both 10 years and over. If you are under 18 then your waiver will need to be signed by a parent or legal guardian.

Do you accept companion cards?

We welcome companion cards. Please show your carers card for free entry with paying companion.
