What you need to know
Sporty and comfortable clothes are recommended. No jewellery should be worn while climbing. Climbing shoes are compulsory for our climbing walls. You can bring your own, or hire them from our hire store. A range of sizes are available (socks must be worn so please bring those with you).
No, you can come down and boulder by yourself! Our helpful staff will guide you in the right direction for you to have a great time. Bouldering is a very social sport with a great community, so chances are you won’t be solo for long.
We have a fully stocked retail section where you can buy climbing shoes, chalk bags and chalk, harnesses, tape, rope, and more. Of course, coffee is essential for climbing and our cafe offers great coffee and a small selection of food!
No! You can start climbing with a very basic level of strength and fitness. As you progress and become stronger, you will be able to advance to some of our more difficult climbs.
There's plenty of climbing routes to cater to all skill and stength levels. If you have never climbed before, we are sure you will be pleasantly surprised at how much fun it is, and how achieveable it is! There is a high level of satisfaction in completing a climb (or 'boulder problem') that you haven't been able to finish, and this is what keeps people climbing and improving for their entire lives.
There is always a risk with falling from any height. On your first visit, our team will guide you through our safety induction to give you everything you need to know in order to boulder as safe as possible.
The gym is covered in soft matting, and we will show you some really easy techniques to avoid injury.
No experience is necessary to start bouldering. We cater for everyone from complete beginners to advanced climbers. Just come on in and our friendly and experienced climbing staff will show you how our grading system works.
No bookings are needed for a climbing session. Bookings are only needed for a yoga or climb-fit class which can be completed online through our booking page.
When you arrive, our staff will take you on a tour of the gym, explain the different climbing routes/problems and the grading system we use, and get you started on your first climb.

What is bouldering?
Think rock climbing without ropes. Our walls are up to 4.8m high, with thick cushioned mats for a soft landing.
You can start bouldering at Alpine with no previous rock climbing experience! There’s lots of easy climbing mixed in with our intermediate and advanced routes and problems, so don’t be afraid if you have never climbed before. You don’t need to be super strong and fit to start climbing – in fact, climbing is one of the best sports to improve your full body strength and fitness.
Simply follow the coloured holds and our grading scale to progress yourself to more difficulty climbing levels as you go.
